" BOB" = ROBERT HAMMOND - NOTRE AMI;
INTRODUCTION:
Le texte ci-dessous nous a été envoyé par M. Jacques Ruisseau, un ami du cinéaste décédé au printemps 2008. Nous avions participé alors à une "bière party" - sorte de commémoration de l'ami défunt ; auquel nous avions souvent rendu visite dans son appartement de la rue de la Glacière. "BOB" était d'une incroyqble hospitalité et aimait tellement RECEVOIR. Alors chacun apportait y sa part et lui, nous prêtait son salon , et surtout, sa cuisine où, sur la table, on disposait tout ce qu'on avait apporté. Des pizzas chauffaient entretemps dans le micro-ondes.
Des conversations s'engageaient : il y avait des écrivains, des artistes, des "intellos"...
Entre deux discussions, on se régalait de salades diverses, de fromages ou de bordeaux.
La femme de Bob, Maggie, étant décédée, les réceptions sefirent plus rares; et Bob semblait fatigué.
Grazyna et Dany, deux vieilles amies, venaient donner un coup de main.
Notre derniière visite avec Dany eut lieu une semaine avant le décès de Bob. (Robert Hammond de son vrai nom).
Bob nous imprima à chacune de nous son C.V. à lui, et Dany prit quelques photos de lui avec sa petite-fille.
Quelques jours plus tard, sa femme deménage, en arrivant, le trouva mort et appela Dany. J'ignore quelle avait été la cérémonie funéraire; la "bi§re party" me sembla bien triste - une sorte d' offrande païenne en l'honneur du guerrier.
De belles photos sont restées que voilà .

When the Lumière brothers introduced the motion picture in 1895, Poland was a divided and suffering nation—yet Polish artists found their way into the new world of cinema. Polish pioneer Boleslaw Matuszewski created his first documentary films in 1896, and Poland’s first movie house was established in 1908. Despite war and repression, Polish cinema continued to grow and to reach for artistic heights. The twentieth century closed with new challenges, but a new generation of Polish filmmakers stands ready to meet them. Here is a complete history of the Polish cinema through the end of the twentieth century, with special attention to political and economic contexts. Each chapter includes discussions of important directors and films in a given period. (Yiddish–language films, which were made primarily in Poland, are included.) Unique reference material includes a filmography providing cast and crew information for more than 500 Polish films; information about the translation of titles; and a list of all Polish films approved, rejected, or conditionally approved by the New York State Department of Education from 1922 through 1965, during which time the Department exercised virtual censorship for the whole country. About the author
Prolific author and film historian Charles Ford lived in Poland and France and taught film history in France, Canada, and Spain. He died in Paris in 1989. Robert Hammond, also an author and film historian, has also taught cinema history in many institutions including Cornell and Harvard. He currently lives in Paris, where he collaborated with Charles Ford on the translation and adaptation of this book.
